REVIEW: The Paranoyds, Spendtime Palace and Zilched at Outer Limits Lounge

by Mike Pfeiffer

Sometimes I have to drag myself out of the house on a Thursday night. Convince myself the night will be worth the pain I’m going to feel going into a Friday on another busy weekend. Those were my thoughts going out Thursday night to see The Paranoyds, Spendtime Palace and Zilched at Outer Limits Lounge. Driving back after midnight, my only thoughts were around what an incredible show I had just experienced with energy that was through the roof.

Local fave, Zilched, started out the night and brought a crowd that began thrashing and dancing immediately to their wonderful noise pop. Spendtime Palace came on next as the crowd relaxed a bit to their tuneful mix of indie rock with some disco jam elements. The highlight of the night, The Paranoyds took the stage with complete abandon and stormed through 45 minutes of their punk-tinged, hook-filled, pop. The crowd bopped along excitedly as Zilched singer, Chloe Drollas, joined them on stage to sing one of their early tracks. Most of their songs they shared lead vocals on and their harmonies surrounded the noise from their buzzing guitar, bass and keyboards. Their set list included many tracks from their latest release Carnage Bargain, including my favorite new song “Girlfriend Degree.”
