If Alison Mosshart sleeps, we sure as hell can’t tell. After completing her duty as lead for the Jack White project, The Dead Weather, the front woman for The Kills has started touring in support of their new album Ash & Ice. In between recording and writing with her stage significant other Jamie Hince, they filmed one of their trademark rock & roll badass music videos (See “Doing It To Death” below). We’ve always known Alison to be unique, but this is starting to make us question if she’s actually a superhero in disguise.
Jamie Hince is suspiciously good, too. Besides being the lead guitarist and backup vocalist, Hince acts as song writer and rhythm section. The Kills use a drum machine for most of their studio tracks, usually constructed in Hince’s vision. In a recent interview, Jamie admitted to having the misfortune of needing surgery on his hand – the hand the professional guitarist uses to play said instrument. In the interview, Hince admitted with limited movement in a finger he simply, “learned how to play without it.” Personally, as an elementary level guitar player, I’ve looked into adding more fingers to my hand, so I could finally play “Thunderstruck” well enough for someone to recognize it without hints. (“Come on, you know this! It’s an Australian band… Beavis’s friend used to wear their shirt…It rhymes with “Shma-Sea DC”.) If Jamie is so great he can shred without using of one of his fingers, maybe he’d be willing to part with it, and maybe a certain writer would be willing to purchase it.
The Kills are coming to Detroit recharged and reloaded with brand new tracks to unleash. Ash & Ice is their best effort yet. Jamie and Alison have already proven themselves again and again as artists, but they seem to be trying out the role of musical super heroes. We might be looking at this indestructible duo joining the cast of the next Avengers movie.
