Must See Concerts in Detroit – September

September is the month of living legends coming to Detroit, along with some legends in the making.

John Mayer

Where: DTE
When: September 1
Why: He’s an amazing guitarist, probably the best of this generation. Also, have you checked out his Twitter feed lately? He’s fucking hilarious.

Alice Cooper

Where: DTE
When: September 3
Why: Gear up for Halloween with the king of creepy. The notoriously shocking stage show of Alice Cooper comes home to Detroit.

U2

Where: Ford Field
When: September 3
Why: Legends. Still pretty rocking show, despite everyone with an iphone hating them for being forced to download their album a few years back.

Bob Seger

Where: DTE
When: September 9
Why: Double dipping with Bob Seger this month. He plays DTE early, then closes out the Palace later. We’re going to both of them.

Beach Slang

Where: The Shelter
When: September 13
Why: We’ve been on the Beach Slang wagon for a while now. We’re pretty happy to have them back at The Shelter. Shit is going to get loud.

Paramore

Where: Fox Theatre
When: September 15
Why: Pop-punk rockstars Paramore should probably be playing someplace a little less uptight than Fox Theatre, but we’ll still be there.

Gorillaz

Where: Fox Theatre
When: September 18
Why: Speaking of bands who shouldn’t be playing the Fox, Gorillaz need to be at the Masonic Temple so we can spread out and dance like maniacs.

Father John Misty

Where: Royal Oak Music Theatre
When: September 19
Why: “Bedding Taylor Swift every night in the Oculus Rift” It’s lyrics like this that have made us fall in love with FJM. Welcome back sir!

Protomartyr

Where: Detroit Princess Riverboat
When: September 22
Why: The gritty Detroit post punk band is releasing their 4th studio album, Relatives, with a bang on the Detroit Princess Riverboat!

Nick Murphy (Chet Faker)

Where: The Majestic Theatre
When: September 27
Why: We aren’t really sure why Chet Faker changed his name to Nick Murphy, but we’d gladly see him live under any stage name. When you make the sexiest video of all time, we’ll listen to you forever.

Manchester Orchestra

Where: The Fillmore
When: September 27
Why: AHH! Where have they been?! It’s only been like 3 years since their last album, but it felt like a lifetime.

RIFF Fest: Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch and Greta Van Fleet

Where: DTE
When: September 29
Why: DO NOT MISS GRETA VAN FLEET. These dudes from Frankenmuth are blowing up in a big way. Listen to their Zeppelin-like song “Highway Tune” and you’ll know why.

Glass Animals

Where: Royal Oak Music Theatre
When: September 29
Why: Smooth and funky. Great way to end the summertime.

See you around, Detroit!
